Multiplayer Games

I get asked all the time what games I'd recommend and it got to the point where I was rambling nonstop because there's JUST. SO. MANY. GOOD. GAMES. So instead of doing that I'll just send people here. All the games are divided by experience level with games since that seems to be the biggest factor in what I'd recommend you try playing.

All of these games are single player games I personally enjoyed. Obviously there are more good games out there but these are the ones that brought me enough joy to want to encourage others to try.

PC/PS5 Cross-play

This is where to start if you have never played a single game in your life. They have relatively simple controls and won't expect you to react quickly at any point. (I'd still recommend this to experienced gamers, though, they're all excellent)

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is a smash-hit pirate adventure game, offering the quintessential pirate experience of plundering lost treasures, intense battles, vanquishing sea monsters and more. Dive in with this revised edition of the game, which includes access to digital bonus media.

Current State

Sea of Thieves receives major seasonal updates and collaborations. The game consistently has tens of thousands of concurrent players. New players will find a lively, ever-evolving pirate world with strong onboarding and a large community.

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is a vast, procedurally generated universe you can explore, build, and survive in, with seamless multiplayer crossplay.

Current State

No Man’s Sky receives major free updates several times per year, adding new features and content. The game maintains a dedicated player base (typically a few thousand concurrent players). New players will find a vast, constantly evolving universe with strong community support.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online shooter with epic raids, PvP, and co-op missions, all playable cross-platform.

Current State

Destiny 2 receives major expansions and seasonal updates multiple times per year. The game regularly sees over 50,000 concurrent players, with spikes during new content launches. New players are supported with onboarding improvements and a wealth of activities.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, featuring deep tactical combat and four-player online co-op with crossplay.

Current State

Baldur’s Gate 3 is highly polished and still receives patches and new features, though major expansions are not yet announced. The game consistently has tens of thousands of concurrent players. New players will find a rich, deep RPG experience with strong community support.

Temtem

Temtem is a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure inspired by Pokémon, where you can catch, train, and battle alongside friends across platforms.

Current State

Temtem’s development is largely complete, with occasional balance patches and community events. Concurrent player counts are modest, typically in the hundreds or low thousands. New players can enjoy the full campaign and competitive scene, but the community is smaller than at launch.

Apico

Apico is a relaxing beekeeping sim where you and your friends can breed bees, explore lush environments, and restore nature together.

Diablo 4

Diablo 4 is a dark action RPG with a vast open world, intense combat, and seamless four-player co-op crossplay between PC and PS5.

Current State

Diablo 4 receives major seasonal updates every few months, each introducing new mechanics, storylines, and rewards. The game regularly sees tens of thousands of concurrent players, with spikes during new season launches. New players benefit from ongoing improvements and a large, active community.

Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV is a critically acclaimed MMORPG featuring epic storytelling, deep dungeons, and massive raids with seamless crossplay between PC and PlayStation.

Pricing is steep, though, with requiring the purchase of the base game and expansions, as well as a $12/mo subscription.

Current State:

Final Fantasy XIV is regularly updated with new story expansions and endgame content. The game consistently holds tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam, with active communities on every server. New players are welcomed with streamlined onboarding and ongoing seasonal events, making it an excellent time to start.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a chaotic fantasy looter-shooter with four-player co-op, wild magic, and crossplay support.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a cooperative third-person shooter where you and your squad battle through waves of Xenomorphs in the iconic Alien universe.

Astroneer

Astroneer is a colorful space sandbox adventure where up to four players explore planets, build bases, and uncover cosmic mysteries together.

First Class Trouble

First Class Trouble is a social deduction party game where players work together—or betray each other—aboard a luxury space cruiser.

Fortnite

Fortnite is a battle royale phenomenon with building, creative modes, and massive crossplay for squads and parties.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is a frenetic co-op shooter where up to four players fight to liberate planets from alien threats.

Remnant 2

Remnant 2 is a challenging co-op shooter with dynamic worlds, intense boss fights, and crossplay for up to three players (with four-player support in certain modes).
